 | 16th Sep 2006 | Thirlmere Rail Extravaganza
The NSWRTM held its popular extravaganza on Sunday 17th September. 3830 hauled the Thirlmere Flyer out from Sydney, 3016 ran its first trips on the loop line with 2705, 3526 hauled the pullman cars to Buxton and Picton and CPH18 ran trips to Buxton and Picton departing from the goods shed. The weather was very kind and it was an enjoyable day for all.

Railcorp help the Centenary Celebrations for Central Station on the 4th of August 2006. The RTM took 3526 and EAM 1829 in for display on the Friday, with an intensive set of shuttle runs on Saturday with locos 3526, 3112, 3801 & 3830. The CPHs were operating out of the Morturary Station.

NSW's biggest steam gathering once again drew large crowds with 5 locos in steam, and regular services to Picton and Buxton. Of interest, 3801 was in grey undercoat for the visit.

Heritage Express ran a weekend rail cruise out to the central west of NSW where the full train of passengers enjoyed wine tasting and other attractions at Mudgee and Cowra.

 | 23rd Sep 2005 to 26th Sep 2005 | 150th Anniversary of NSW Railways Weekend
Being the largest event in rail preservation in a long time, the 150th anniversary of the NSW railways took many months to organise. A spectacular show was put on by Railcorp and the RTM, along with many other heritage groups. For many, some of the events will never be forgotten, and perhaps the icing on the cake was the commemorative train featuring 1709 and 1210 - two vintage train locos - with the 1890s pullman car set and its gleaming brass work. It doesnt get any better than that!

1709 had a glorious return to steam on a main line mixed train recreation with 3526. The lengthy train consisted of specially prepared freight wagons from the RTM's collection. The locos performed well on the day.

Heritage Express ran a tour covering many regional locations in NSW such as North Star, Gunnedah, Werris Creek, Dubbo, Mudgee, Cowra, Junee, Griffith and Lockhart over the Easter Break 2005. A travelling display was included in the 17 car consist which was carefully designed by the ARHS NSW division to display our rail heritage to the people of regional NSW. The tour went for 6 days, covered over 4000km and attracted much interest everywhere it went. It was a great way to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the NSW Railways and an effective method of showing and telling the railway story to Regional NSW.

 | 6th Nov 2004 | 75th Anniversary of the Newcastle Flyer
The NSWRTM/Heritage Express ran a tour commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Newcastle Flyer on Saturday the 6th of November. Locomotives 3526 and 3801 were used on a train of 1890s Pullman cars while 3830 was motive power for a train of 5 N steel cars. Anyone who was on this trip wont forget it in a hurry! All 3 locos looked great as did the trains.

Sunday the 19th of September saw 3801 bring nine cars from Sydney to Picton where travelling passengers had the option of either travelling to Thirlmere on 3801 or boarding the NSWRTMs pullman cars hauled by 3526 for a trip up the Southern Highlands to Bowral and Moss Vale. Upon 3526s arrival back to Picton, 3801, with electric locomotive 8646 dead attached, hauled the trainload of passengers back to Sydney. 2705 was also working the loop line on this day.

It Featured 5 steam locos, 3801,3830,1210,2705 and 3112! For all the workers including me, it was a very long and tiring day and a real credit to the RTM.

4490 assisted 1210 back to Canberra on the 27th of March 2004 after the loco and cars had taken part in the RTMs Rail Extravaganza.

A special running day was organised with the RTMs newly restored 3526 pairing with 1210 on a mixed freight train consisting of an SWT water gin, a selection of historic 4 wheel freight wagons and the ARHS ACTs immaculately presented HCX.
